I made myself a promise not to whitter on about Apple products when I rebooted this blog a while back. I am now breaking that promise. But this is an exception because I need a new mobile phone and I also possibly need a new laptop soon because my 17″ MacBook Pro (late 2006 model) is playing up a little, probably related to the fact I dropped it six feet onto a stone floor and bent the entire laptop, had to take it to bits and flatten the case with a hammer and some pliers.
Honestly, I am just delighted it has worked (apart from needing a replacement DVD drive after the fall) after I did this. But now it being ‘difficult’ and might need replacing.
I wanted the new 13″ aluminium MacBook when it came out but I was very reticent due to the lack of Firewire 800, which I use daily. Apple has now upgraded the 13″ aluminium MacBook and called it a ‘MacBook Pro’ and put the Firewire 800 port on it. Also they lowered the price and bumped the RAM up to 4GB on the higher end model. They also upgraded to the new ‘built in’ battery and it gets 7 hours of use on a full charge. Probably more like 5-6 in real life but still brilliant.
I am now almost hoping my laptop will die a terrible death so I can get a shiny new 13″ MacBook Pro. It is now perfect for me, especially if I get the 24″ screen for it and a full keyboard and mouse so it acts like a desktop when I am working at my desk.
The iPhone is another matter. I really wanted to get an iPhone but they needed to offer something cheaper. But the new one is more expensive than the old ones and the old one, still being offered, is the same damned price as before. If they could have gone just under £300 for an 8GB iPhone I might have bought one. Or even offered it free on the £30 a month contract.
Looks like I just have to pick another mobile phone again. This is a shame.
I’d also like to thank Apple for fixing Safari 4 between the beta and today’s final release. That tab bar was a monstrosity, an abomination and was nothing but a pain. Thank God they saw the light and put it back under the link bar.
While I am on the subject of Apples, I found a market stall today that sells Fuji Apples (thhhhreeeee forrrwa paaaahhhnd!). This is a discovery of truly nomtastic proportions. I’ve missed Fuji Apples since I moved to Nottingham, they don’t sell them in any nearby supermarkets or grocery shops. I shall now be presenting myself at this market stall with my pound coin at regular intervals.
